As we begin September, adoptions are up nearly 25% over the same period last year, creating more space and more second chances for animals in need
Suncoast Humane Society is celebrating an extraordinary milestone: 1,500 animals have found loving homes so far this year.
But the true impact of those 1,500 adoptions is even greater.
Every adoption saves two lives — the animal going home and the animal who can now take their place. That means 1,500 adoptions have created opportunities to save 3,000 lives.
The milestone represents significant growth for Suncoast Humane Society. During the same time period last year, the organization completed 1,204 adoptions. This year’s 1,500 adoptions represent an increase of nearly 25 percent — almost 300 additional animals placed into homes.
“This isn’t simply a number we’re celebrating. It represents 1,500 individual animals who now have families, and 1,500 more opportunities to say ‘yes’ to animals still waiting for help,” said Maureen E. O’Nell, Chief Executive Officer for Suncoast Humane Society. “When an animal leaves our campus with their new family, that open space gives another animal the opportunity to begin their own journey toward safety, healing and a second chance.”
The impact reaches far beyond the animals housed at Suncoast Humane Society’s Englewood campus. The organization serves as a regional resource, helping animals and families within its community while collaborating with shelters and rescue organizations throughout Florida and beyond.
Each animal that enters Suncoast Humane Society receives individualized care designed to prepare them for a successful future. That can include microchips, spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations, behavioral support, enrichment, and ultimately, the opportunity to find a family.
Reaching 1,500 adoptions is also a testament to the community that makes the work possible.
Every adopter, foster family, volunteer, donor, staff member and community partner plays a role in creating these second chances.
Because an empty kennel isn’t simply a space. It’s an opportunity to save another life.
Community members can help continue the momentum by choosing to adopt, foster, volunteer or donate.
